Air Max Day 2021

Every Air Max has a story. It’s time to find yours.
On March 26th, the Air Max family turns 34. It all began in 1987, with the Air Max 1. Created by legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max 1 was the first model to showcase the brand’s Air technology, thanks to a visible window into the sole.
That revolutionary design feature sparked three decades of performance and fashion innovations. With hundreds of Air Max sneakers released to this date, this is arguably Nike’s most successful footwear line.
Whether it’s new design elements or entirely new models, the Air Max collection has long been pushing the boundaries of innovation. So of course, you can expect something new to drop on Air Max Day. This year, it’s the turn of the Nike Air VaporMax Evo, paying homage to the most distinctive elements of Air Max icons, such as the Air Max 90, the Air MaxPlus (aka Tuned) and the Air Max 180+. That’s right: all of them, into one shoe.
To celebrate Air Max Day and the launch of the Air VaporMax Evo, we have teamed up with French textile artist Delphine Dénéréaz, who’s been reshaping the traditional practice of weaving by infusing it with strong pop and street culture references. We asked the artist to mirror the patchwork design process behind the VaporMax Evo, creating an art piece which references the numerous influences behind the shoe.
Alongside Delphine, our Striper Yann will feature in a virtual interview focused on the Evo, drawing parallels between the two creative journeys.
