That's right. Lacoste’s new apparel line is coming to Foot Locker, and we’re all high on crocodile fever. Before we get into the exciting lineup, do you know how the ever-so-famous logo came to be?

The Story of Lacoste

It all starts with the ten-time grand slam winner René Lacoste, whose team, famously called the Musketeers, also won the Davis Cup in 1927. Well-known for his strength and performance, a journalist found out about a bet he made with his coach over an alligator skin suitcase. That's how the ‘crocodile’ was born. René found it so amusing that he made his illustrator friend, Robert George, draw a crocodile, which he sewed outside the chest pocket of his blazer. In fact, he set the precedent by being the first to display a logo on the outside of a garment in 1927.

René Lacoste was not just a sports player but also an innovator in every sense. From 1933, when he marketed the first Lacoste polo shirt, to the brand's 90^th anniversary in 2023 with an extensive line of clothing and accessories, Lacoste has come a long and glorious way. The brand is known for remixing the timelessness of the 90s while exploring new grounds—a perfect serve for sports aesthetics and fashion.  

The Lacoste Apparel Line- What's So Special?

Since the very beginning, Lacoste has strived to achieve functional elegance with its lightweight, breathable, and unique fabric called cotton pique. In fact, it took twelve tries for Rene to be happy with the final product that we have today. The apparel line uses ultra-dry technology, which leaves the fabric surface dry by absorbing moisture and sweat away from the skin. The brand is also committed to its eco-responsibility. The cotton is organic, the synthetic materials are recycled, and any animal product used is sourced from farms that respect animal welfare.

Best Ways to Style Your Lacoste from Head-To-Toe

And here’s the most exciting part of it all. Bakari, our Striper from Saint-Denis, France, and Al Hassan (@al_hassan_ly), an up-and-coming rap journalist, collaborated at our studio to show you some fresh head-to-toe Lacoste styles from the new apparel collection.

For the first look, Hassan chose a navy-blue Lacoste t-shirt with a big white logo in the center. This shirt is perfect for regular frequency due to its ultra-dry technology and comes in other colorways like green, white, and black. He combines this with basic white Lacoste track pants. Designed for tennis, these track pants also come in black and navy-blue colorways.

Bakari sports a white Lacoste t-shirt, which he layers with a black jacket from the sports line that’s lightweight, water-repellant, and made with recycled polyester. It has the classic small logo patched on the chest. This jacket also comes in white and navy-blue colorways. He combines these with the black colorway Lacoste track pants.

For the second look, Hassan and Bakari chose to create a black-and-white contrast in their styling.  

Hassan goes for an all-black look with a fully zipped-up outerwear Lacoste black jacket that Bakari wore in the first look, which he pairs with the black track pants.

Bakari also wears the black Lacoste track pants but creates a contrast by wearing the jacket in the white colorway. He doesn’t zip up the jacket but instead layers it with the white Lacoste t-shirt.

Hassan also experiments with different layers and gives us two more looks. He wears a black Lacoste t-shirt, which he contrasts with the white track pants. He layers this with a light puffed sleeveless jacket that’s an essential outerwear piece of the Lacoste wardrobe. It’s a short-length jacket that’s perfect for light showers and comes with an attached hood.

He then takes off the jacket and poses with Bakari for the final look. This gives us the full effect of the white track pants and the black t-shirt with the Lacoste logo we love.
