A LEGEND IS BORN

A true modern classic, Vans Old Skool trainers are the skateboarding shoes we can all get on board with. Browse this page to find your perfect pair. The Vans company was founded in 1966 by brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren, along with business partners Gordon Lee and Serge Delia. The Old Skool model dates back to 1977 and was the first to feature the now-legendary Vans side stripe along with leather panels for enhanced durability. It is a low-top, lace-up shoe with a simple silhouette, cushioning around the ankle, and the Vans waffle outsole for enhanced grip.

VANS OLD SKOOL: THE SKATEBOARDER’S CHOICE

Rubber-soled canvas shoes have been the trainers of choice among skateboarders since at least the 1970s and Vans Old Skool trainers fit the bill perfectly. However, it was the long-term partnership between Vans and the skateboarding shop Supreme in the 1990s that truly cemented their status as a skatepark icon. Countless other collabs followed over the years, making Vans Old Skool highly prized among sneakerheads and collectors.

THE HISTORY OF THE VANS SIDE STRIPE

Today, the side stripe is an instantly recognizable hallmark of the Vans brand, as seen on a host of products from shoes to tops and hats. But it wasn’t always that way. In fact, the side stripe started life as a simple doodle by Paul Van Doren and was originally referred to as the “jazz stripe”. Although Vans Old Skool trainers now come in a wide array of fabrics and styles, the side stripe tends to be picked out in a contrasting color to this day.
